YMCA Camp Casey Kicks Off a Bright New Chapter

Coupeville, WA. February 11, 2025 — Excitement and community spirit filled the air as neighbors, families, and local leaders gathered for the first-ever YMCA Camp Casey Community Kick-Off on Whidbey Island. This special event marked the beginning of a new chapter for this historic property, now under the stewardship of the YMCA of Snohomish County. The kick-off event introduced attendees to the Y’s mission and how it will come to life at Camp Casey—youth development, outdoor adventure, and community connection.

For nearly 70 years, Camp Casey has been a gathering place for education, recreation, and personal growth. Now, under the YMCA’s leadership, it will continue to serve generations to come.

YMCA Camp Casey Executive Director Jake Carlson shared his enthusiasm for the journey ahead: “This place is special—not just because of its breathtaking location, but because of the opportunities it creates. Here, kids will build confidence, make lifelong friends, and discover the joy of the outdoors in a way that shapes who they become.”

One of the most moving aspects of the event was the overwhelming support from the Whidbey Island community. In addition to being the permanent home of Overnight Camp and hosting conferences and retreats, YMCA Camp Casey is developing a wide range of programs that will soon be available to the Whidbey Island community. From youth day camps to swim lessons, youth sports to open gym, the Y is committed to creating opportunities for all ages to learn, grow, and connect.

“We aim to be the premier camp destination on the West Coast,” Carlson continued. “At the same time, we are also going to be a place where local Whidbey Island kids find belonging, families connect in the great outdoors, and our distinctive blend of natural beauty and historical significance inspires generations of changemakers.”

Mark your calendars for YMCA Camp Casey’s Community Open House on Saturday, May 3 from 10 am – 2 pm. Stay tuned for more updates as the Y continues its journey toward launching programming in 2025. Learn more at ymcacampcasey.org
