Strengthening Swim Instruction Across Our Association

This past Saturday, the YMCA of Snohomish County proudly hosted our first All Swim Instructor In Service – bringing together 75 instructors from all six branches for a high-impact, hands-on training experience with tons of energy and excitement.

Aquatics leadership designed six focused training stations to strengthen skills, align standards, and build consistency across our Association:

  • Behavior Management in Lessons
  • Preschool Teaching Techniques
  • School Age Teaching Techniques
  • Skill Progressions: Back
  • Skill Progressions: Front
  • Upper-Level Corrections for Butterfly & Breaststroke

The last time we gathered all swim instructors was in February 2024 during the launch of our Adapted Swim Lessons. Since then, staff and leadership transitions have created natural shifts in practice and consistency.

This in service was a strategic investment – restoring foundational standards, strengthening teaching techniques, and advancing lesson quality across every branch.

As we continue to steward a robust aquatics program that develops confidence, safety, and lifelong skills, we remain committed to equipping our instructors with the tools they need to succeed. When we invest in our staff, we elevate the experience for every child and family we serve.

Thank you to our entire Aquatics Team! Your dedication, passion, and daily commitment to excellence made this event not only possible, but exceptional.
