Welcome to Kids Zone at the Y!

Welcome to the YMCA Kids Zone – a place where your kids can play, learn, and explore while you take time for yourself! Included with your Family Membership, Kids Zone offers up to two hours of free, supervised care each day, giving you peace of mind while you enjoy the Y’s facilities.

What We Do

More than just babysitting, Kids Zone is a vibrant, engaging space designed for all age groups. Every month, we introduce new themed activities that spark creativity and excitement, ensuring your children are safe, entertained, and learning.

For infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, we offer a nurturing environment where little ones can thrive. Infants receive gentle care and attention in a calm setting, while toddlers and preschoolers engage in hands-on crafts, imaginative play, and games that support social and cognitive development.

Kids ages 5-10 will find Kids Zone to be a place where fun and creativity come to life! With exciting monthly themes, arts and crafts, and interactive games, there’s always something new to discover. It’s a fun, safe space where kids make friends, explore new interests, and look forward to returning every time. Kids Zone is an adventure waiting for them, while you enjoy your time at the Y!

Kids Zone FAQs

Children must meet the following criteria to be eligible for Kids Zone:

  • 6 weeks to 10 years old
  • Attached to an active Family Membership

Participating families must have an active Family 1, Family 2, or Family 3 membership. Welcome Center teams will institute a process for confirming membership status before the family arrives at Kids Zone.

No, parents or guardians must remain in the building and be accessible (by text or call) for the duration of their child’s time in Kids Zone. *If you are running at Lake Tye in Monroe, please inform the staff of your location

Children should bring socks (required for branches with climbing structures), shoes, and a non-glass labeled water bottle. For infants and young children, please bring what they need for soothing. All items must be labeled.

We ask that you not bring any toys or electronics from home.

We’re glad you trust our staff and may be interested in having them babysit or transport children outside of Y hours. To maintain professional boundaries and ensure the safety of everyone involved, this is only allowed with a pre-authorized consent form and an existing relationship established outside of the Y. Please refrain from asking staff to break this rule, as doing so could lead to termination.

If your child has an accident or needs a diaper change, our staff will notify you right away. You can attend to their needs and then get back to your workout or other activities at the Y.

In order to keep our Kids Zone safe for all children, including those with food allergies, we ask that food not be brought into the Kids Zone. You may bring in a spill proof cup or water bottle filled with water. Milk is allowed for infants only. Please ensure that your infant’s bottle is labeled and ready for use before arriving at Kids Zone.

While Kids Zone staff are not licensed childcare providers, they do complete extensive training to ensure a safe environment for your children.

Our Kids Zones are designed for children to explore, meet new friends, and develop independence. We understand that transitions away from parents/guardians can be challenging, but we encourage parents to drop off their children, share any important information with our staff, and then enjoy your time at the Y! This approach helps create a safe and focused environment for all children.

Our staff make every effort to keep your child happy and content in Kids Zone. In the event that your child is not able to be consoled and has consistent crying for a period of over 10 minutes, we will seek you out, as the parent or guardian and ask for your assistance in soothing the child.

Staff ratios are guidelines we follow to provide proper supervision for each child. While these ratios are flexible, especially on busier days, we aim for the following:

  • Infants/Waddlers: 1 staff member per 4 infants
    • Infants 6 weeks and older, typically under 2 years old and not yet walking
  • Toddlers and Preschoolers: 1 staff member per 10 children
    • Toddlers who can walk steadily, up to 4 years old
  • School Age: 1 staff member per 15 children
    • Youth ages 4-10 years old, must be fully potty trained

Following the guidelines below will allow us to maintain everyone’s health and well-being. We appreciate you respecting the health of the other children in Kids Zone by cooperating with us. An ill child will not be admitted and children who become ill may not remain in Kids Zone. For the safety of your child as well as the other children in Kids Zone, you may not bring a child to our program for one business day after having any of the following symptoms:

  • A fever of 100 of higher
  • Intestinal disturbance accompanied by diarrhea or vomiting
  • Any undiagnosed rash
  • Sore or discharging eyes or ears
  • Profuse, colored nasal discharge not accompanied with seasonal allergies
  • A communicable disease
